Dr Andrew Kavulya Mullei, a distinguished economist, was born and raised in rural Kenya. He received his PhD degree in economics from Northern Illinois University in 1973; his Master of Arts degree in economics from Howard University in 1969; and the equivalent of first degree in economics and commerce from the University of Munich in 1967. He was Rockefeller Scholar from 1970 to 1973 and Otto Benecke Scholar from 1963 to 1967
